Winner'08 News
Elmira, N.Y., July 16--In his bid for re-election to the
New York State Senate, Senator George Winner (R-C-I, Elmira) recently filed
more than 4,000 signatures from local registered voters to secure his place
on the Republican, Conservative, and Independence Party lines this November.
Winner is seeking a third term representing the state’s 53rd Senate District.
The 53rd District is comprised of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates
counties, and a part of Tompkins County (the city and town of Ithaca, and
the towns of Enfield, Newfield, and Ulysses).
Winner ran successfully with support from the Republican, Conservative,
and Independence parties in 2006. He was first elected to the Senate four
years ago.
"I remain grateful for this broad-based, grassroots, multiparty show
of support from people across the Southern Tier-Finger Lakes region,"
said Winner. "We’ve worked hard together to try to strengthen this
region’s economy and to ensure that our challenges aren’t overlooked in
New York government. It’s a strong and growing partnership."
Winner also reported receiving $130,980 in campaign contributions during
the first half of 2008.
His campaign committee, Friends for Winner, has approximately $340,000 on
hand.
