Elmira, N.Y., September 15--State Senator George Winner
(R-C-I, Elmira) has been named as a 2008 member of the New York Farm Bureau
"Circle of Friends."
The "Circle of Friends" is an honorary organization formed in
1990 to recognize New York State legislators who support agriculture. Winner
has been named to the organization every year since its inception. The Farm
Bureau represents more than 35,000 member farm families.
"The New York Farm Bureau ‘Circle of Friends’ legislative award is
based upon your voting record on issues of importance to New York agriculture,"
Farm Bureau President John W. Lincoln wrote in a letter to Winner. "Membership
is reserved for only those who actively support the farm families of New
York State."
Winner, who represents New York’s 53rd Senatorial District, serves as chairman
of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, a joint, bipartisan agency
seeking to focus state government’s attention on the concerns and needs
of New York’s rural regions.
"The agricultural industry has been a mainstay of the culture and economy
across hundreds of communities throughout New York, especially upstate.
We can never lose sight of its importance," said Winner.
During his four years of service in the Senate, Winner has become recognized as a leading voice in support of state programs and policies to spark a revitalization of the upstate New York economy.
